Loved Mr. Bates and the Post Office! Fun to know you are a fellow fan. Why aren't there more programs like this? Love, too, that you went to Chicago to see that play and that it that the experience lit you up. Here's to more experiences like that!
The writing and compression of allll those years and that story -- really just so impressive. I love that it was such a hit overseas. I've found a lot of excellent shows on BritBox, if you haven't already gone down that rabbit hole.
And it's funny, we were waffling on the Chicago trip, but it turned out to be one of the best things we could have done! Sometimes you gotta just book the flight :)
Oh you're in for a treat!! Some favorites: Prime Suspect, Sherwood, Line of Duty. And not on BritBox but two all-time favorites are Happy Valley and Unforgotten — INCREDIBLE!
OMG, thank you! Your suggestions are golden. I've seen some of the more recent episodes (including the prequel, very good--https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/shows/prime-suspect-tennison/#) but very few of the older, original episodes. I watched one episode of Unforgotten; I'll give it another try based on your rec. Adding your other recs to my must watch list.
Have you seen Any Human Heart (book by William Boyd)? This is one of my all time favorite series. You might need to find it at the library.
Thank you so much for these tips!! Matthew Macfadyen?! I will try to hunt this down somewhere...and bookmarking this page now, it's a bottomless well of suggestions.
I bet if you'd been writing a newsletter every day the last two weeks, you'd NEVER have turned out one as good as this!!!
Thanks for the reminder to do the brave thing AND to stay on track.
This was super-inspiring! You made a big difference! (And I'm reminded of that every day when I look to the top of my computer and see the sign I made that says your quote (and subsequently my phrase of the year) SOLID INCREMENTAL PROGRESS
Thank you for saying this!! I felt like I bottled up everything, shook the seltzer can, then let it explode all over Substack. But then we do what do gotta do. SIP! Solid! Incremental! Progress!
It was perf! And FWIW, in a busy couple of weeks, I hadn’t noticed that you were gone until you came back — and was just happy to hear from you again!!
Love all of this. And thank you Kara for the kind words about my new song. You (and your art and your newsletter) have been such a huge inspiration for me in this journey.
Kara, I am glad that you are fine. You were indeed busy accomplishing. Good for you. I am still reading Bell’s book and am learning. Have a nice weekend.
Welcome back. Breaks are good. And also, you make the rules. So if you needed to be "off," it's great you went for it.
How inspiring the 105 year old just received her masters degree from Stanford! That's the story of someone who didn't limit themselves by age, stage, or convention. I love it!

Thanks for the BritBox suggestion. I will check it out! I can't get enough of British drama and selection period pieces. Thanks for writing back!

Forgot to mention this site: https://www.willowandthatch.com. Very dense, though if patient, many great recommendations.

The inspiration flows both ways, Mark! Thank YOU!

So glad it's useful! I just picked it up again yesterday to get some essential reminders. Enjoy your weekend, Margaret!

Love that reminder, Linda. I *do* make the rules. Each of us does.
And she truly is proof that there are no limits, not when you really want something!
Bauble bobbles!
If a bauble bobbles in the woods, does anyone hear the bauble wobbles?!
