Oh, hi friends!
Tell me about an old skill. One you used to have.
Maybe you used it during a previous job, or it came in handy during another life — months or years ago.
Maybe you were really good at leading meetings, or writing headlines, or scouting new authors.
Gathering people, running the numbers, telling a story.
People used to rely on you — you and your skill.
It hasn’t gone anywhere, you know.
Just because you haven’t used it lately doesn’t mean it’s disappeared.
Your skill is still there when you need it.
Today, tomorrow, any time.
“Ain’t no shame in holding on to grief, as long as you make room for other things, too.”
—Bubbles, The Wire
We’re one episode from finishing the last season of The Wire, and this line from everyone’s favorite confidential informant really got me.
How true this is of grief, and those other shaky, life-altering emotions, too.
You don’t have to move on; you just have to make room, make room, make room.
It’s a Sixteen-Gosling Day
Remember my obsession with the goslings? What a quirky time that was.
In case you missed it, it felt overwhelming earlier this summer to commit to big tasks, so I chose to do one small thing (aka a gosling) for four days in a row. (My thing was to write five pages a day, which now reminds me I wrote 25 pages of a new play I really liked before going on vacation and completely forgetting it existed!)
Anyway, it was a mini streak. And I urged you to celebrate your goslings, too.
Well, today is a little different! We’re gathering up all the goslings we can find, going full steam ahead, knocking out all the tasks, doing all the things, in order to make the summer Friday easier and breezier. With me? Who can resist those faces?
