As far as the owls go. When you asked the question- should I pet the left or right owl, my immediate thought was, why not pet both? As far as the owls go, petting both seems reasonable. No harm. No foul. However, I see your point. There area times when 'both' isn't a valid option, and a distinct choice needs to be made.
