Oh, hi friends!
Yesterday I wrote about dirty drafts, those itchy new ugly ducklings, and the importance of putting down something.
Then Rachel Sager had a great comment regarding all the space between the first draft and the one just before you hit publish.
And it’s a lot of space. A lot, a lot, a lot.
But we forget that.
When you’re obsessed with the first draft of any project, with putting each word down with precision and care, you forget there are acres and acres of space before you have to let it go.
You can go in so many new directions.
Doesn’t that feel like freedom?
Doesn’t that relieve the pressure from the first draft?
Remember it’s not the first and only.
It’s the first beginning.
“Are you having a microwave day or a stovetop day?”
Great short article on knowing your limits and leaning into them. (h/t Kayla Barnes)
For example, do you want the ease and convenience of the microwave, or do you have the patience to wait for the stovetop?
If it’s a microwave day, you might want to set smaller goals.
If it’s a stovetop day, you might have more energy and focus.
Set your schedule accordingly!

Keep looking. Someone will eventually look back.
