Oh, hi friends!
Some people call it the vomit draft.
Barf. There’s a bunch of stuff. Words, ideas, something.
I usually call mine the dirty draft, because that makes me believe a “clean draft” exists somewhere. It’s a matter of dusting the edges and scrubbing a bit to find it.
A friend recently called theirs an “itchy draft.” That’s good, too. You can scratch an itch. You can make it better.
Let’s call these unjudgeable drafts.
They’re better than the drafts that exist in your head.
Put down something.
“I don’t believe in plot and I’ve never plotted anything,” she said. “I don’t think you can be in the paragraph if you’ve already decided where you need to be.”
Very interesting technique from author Claire Keegan. I like it.
How are you letting your work be seen? How are you hiding?
I don’t think you can be in the paragraph if you’ve already decided where you need to be.”
LOVE this! Thank you Kara!
Love the dirty draft thinking. There is so much space between the very first one and one just before you hit publish isn't there? I would love to read more of this. Also, I am trying to figure out how you got those very cool, blue arrows as your section dividers!?
