Oh, hi friends!
Last month, my friend Jae Broderick asked if I had another journal coming out.
Yes! Um, I should probably tell people about it…
Her wise response exploded my brain.
Don’t keep yourself a secret.
Whoa.
Exactly the framing I needed to hear. Not tips on self-promotion. Not ways to “get myself out there.”
It’s hard for most people to post, to ask for subscribers or reviews, to reach out for help.
I don’t like doing any of that. I make my little projects and crawl into the corner and hope people find them.
Does sharing make you uncomfortable, too?
Mmhmm.
But her statement hits at the larger objective, the more essential propulsion:
You don’t need to hide!
You can share what’s giving you energy right now.
You can share your joys. Your wins. Your major planes!
You can make yourself visible. In whatever way feels honest to you.
So, yes, I do have a new journal coming out!
If you want to dive into creating boundaries for your life and creative work, my new book Do It (or Don’t): A Boundary-Creating Journal comes out September 12!
Order now from Abrams, Bookshop, Amazon, or your local bookstore and you’ll get it the day it’s released.
I’ll be doing some fun events around the journal — it’s the last of my journal TRILOGY! (lol what is this, Indiana Jones? oh wait there are 40 of those movies now…)
Anyway, I’m really proud of this one, especially the essay titled “Say No.”
But I also like the one called “Flake with Grace.” And the one called “How to Rest.” Basically I write these bibles for myself.
Hope you will like it, too.
OK, telling you wasn’t so bad. And maybe it’s not a secret anymore! If you pre-order, please let me know — it really helps my own personal momentum and energy!!
Thanks for reading.
Don’t keep yourself a secret either.
I’m a facilitator of Google’s IAmRemarkable workshops (it should have a hashtag in front but I’m on an unfamiliar keyboard and unsure how to generate one!) all about self promotion. They have two slogans: it’s not bragging if it’s true, and achievements don’t speak for themselves. That second one made my head explode (in a good way) when I first heard it, and I’ve spent the years since unlearning the expectations of modesty I was brought up with. ‘Don’t keep yourself a secret’ is a fantastic addition to that!!
Hurrah! Love the cover!
