Oh, hi friends!
Not sure what happened, but I think this was the “busiest” (or shall we say, “most full”) week I’ve had in…years?
Soooo, I’m very ready to gently close it down.
How about you?
What moving into tomorrow looks like for me:
Closing the urgent loops (even if it’s just saying “received and will get back to you on Monday”)
Working on a song so I can be prepared for a collaborator meeting tomorrow
Defining my writing and work containers on next week’s calendar, so I don’t start the week all discombobulated
Doing one thing that is hard but important (sending my TV pilot!)
Being OK with everything I *didn’t* do this week
Celebrating what I *did* do
Then we’re getting out of here to eat hot dogs and cheer on the miracle Mets this afternoon.
What do you need to gently close the door on the week?
What do you want to bring with you into next week?
And what do you want to leave right here?
8 Things That Made Life Better & Brighter This Week
This week I’m reading Stay: A Story of Family, Love & Other Traumas, by the wonderful writer (and friend of this newsletter), Julie Fingersh. It touches on subjects beautiful and difficult, and is both vulnerable and brave — and the way she weaves together three strands of her life so artfully is something that will stay with me for a long time. You can find more here (ps — it’s blurbed by Anne Lamott and Gretchen Rubin, two more of my faves!)
Let’s go Mets. You gotta believe!!!
Kara’s catching up on culture alert: I’m watching The Sopranos for the first time (it’s Colin’s third time). Not sure if you know this, but it’s a pretty good show?
We saw Our Town on Broadway this week, starring Jim Parsons. How I love plays that make you think and feel. Another recent gem was The Hills of California by Jez Butterworth.
Intentional work sessions with friends are the best!
Proud of myself for writing five newsletters this week, even if I wrote most of them after 11pm…
OK, this might sound weird, but I found myself working at Starbucks this week (had one of those 90-minute empty zones in the middle of the day) and it was so pleasant! Nice baristas, very few people, great light. I haven’t coffee-shop worked that much since the pandemic, but it was a nice reminder of the power of changing your scenery. Also, outside-world coffee is like lightning in my veins and brain.
Finally, Lula always makes life wonderful!
What were your week’s highlights? I’d love to know…
And wowow, brighter and better possibilities are still to come!
Enjoy your weekends, friends.
My week's highlights? All of the ADULTING! On top of working on a fulfilling blog post series and working with clients, I had my teeth cleaned, VOTED, got my car's oil changed (and other assorted maintenance), got my COVID vax, updated the "press room " section of my web site, and had a fasting blood test.
(And I'm envious. Our Town is a sentimental favorite of mine.)
[Edited to correct a missing apostrophe. Punctuation is important. ;-)]
Kara, I attended Linda Samuels' session. It is excellent. Thank you for introducing this session.
