I'm glad you are enjoying Oliver Burkeman's newsletter. I had the same reaction you had when I read that quote yesterday! And thanks for sharing the link to our podcast interview. I so enjoyed our conversation. Have a great trip!
He consistently strikes the right chord, doesn't he?! So fun to know we were on the same page..."operating from sanity" might be a good M.O. for 2023. Love loved our conversation, it's the gift that keeps on giving!!
Have an amazing trip to Rome and enjoy your time away! We'll all be here waiting when you return- refreshed, reenergized, and ready to resume similarly or perhaps in a different way. There's nothing like NOT doing and taking a break to shift perspective.
I'm reading Mckeown's book, Essentialism now. He reinforces the case for 'stepping away.' That means not working 24/7, getting enough sleep, doing the essential and leaving the unessential behind. So I'm with you 100% about those articles. If the point can be made in 400 words, why push it to 1,000 or 2,000. Less on the page gives your readers more to contemplate.
Happy travels, Kara! Looking forward to your discoveries upon your return. And PLEASE eat some pasta for me.
You're so right, and it's good to remember that every time I've consciously and deliberately taken a break, it's always been for the best. A true rest! I really enjoyed Essentialism, too, and it's probably time to do another quick reread. So easy to forget those messages.
Eating at LEAST two bowls of cacio e pepe in your honor, Linda. Thank you!

I'm also wishing the Pickles family well.
Have an amazing trip to Rome!!
"The Pickles Family" is cracking me up...honestly, might be worth diverting the trip and going to Houston instead.
I have read the Mr. Pickles story and love it because that is also the name of my 15 year old Chihuahua...ROCK ON Mr. Pickles...
I hope your trip to Rome is spectacular, all of us fans will be there with you in spirit.
Yes, I'm definitely gonna need to see a photo of 15-year-old Mr. Pickles the Chihuahua at some point...
And I appreciate the generous send-off!
Have a great time! As usual, this was spot-on for me today. Your work really helps me keep going<3
This makes me so happy to hear — and helps me keep going, too!

I WILL wrap up my short story today! Yes.
Have a wonderful week off, Kara! Safe travels. We'll be here when you get back. 😊
I so appreciate that, Meg. Please don't abandon me!!
And I have *all* the faith you'll wrap up that short story, and even tie a nice lil' bow around it. That's what Fridays are for.
Happy for you that you’re taking a break! Have a LOVELY time!!!!
Thank you so much!
