I love this, and I'm so glad BRD (and you!) are back in my inbox, Kara! I've been doing Monthly Reflections this year, where — amongst other things — I look back and list everything I did during the month. Much like you realized reflecting on your last 100 days, it was actually so much! We're always doing more than we give ourselves credit for.
Also, it was so fun to see your interview with Michelle Hickey here — I just met Michelle at AWP in Los Angeles a couple weeks ago, and had no idea she had a Substack! Can't wait to read your interview and more from her!
A month feels like the perfect, chunky time to reflect on and then project into the next month -- such a great idea!
And how amazing you and Michelle ran into each other in real, actual life?! Two brilliant newsletter writers *in the wild*! I'm sure you'll love her newsletter and find lots of inspiration inside.
It took a few days (ugh, tax time!) but I just finished your interview on Michelle Hickey's Inspiration Everywhere, and I felt like I was in the room with you. (Every day, I realize just how much I've missed you, girl!) It even inspired me to try color-coding my (rarely used) Google Drive. 95% of my Google drive is stuff shared from someone else's Google drive when I've been too lazy to send it to my Evernote.
But seriously, when do I get to read your pilot for The Muse? It sounds fabulous, and is giving me shades of Slings & Arrows. I'm ready to start casting it in my head. (My family thinks I missed my calling as a casting director.)
Gretchen is so wise and I love what it sparked for you! I’ve been *trying* to review my camera photo roll daily, searching the current day, and deleting obsolete shots from years past. The practice has given me this exact feeling — unexpected reminders of many wonderful things that have happened!
Thanks again for your always-inspiring newsletter, and for sharing your interview from my Substack! ✨
Dear Kara, I am glad to be able to read your news letter once more. This week I read two reviews of Wendy Woods "Good Habits Bad Habits." I learned some useful information, e.g., adding friction to limit a bad habit and making things easier to start a good habit. (I just looked up and saw my dog sitting nearby waiting for his nightly treat. He never forgets. He just got up and came closer.)
Thank you for telling me about this book -- I just added it to my "to read" pile! Adding friction does always seem to help. But your dog, well, he doesn't have any friction whatsoever. I want to stick to my essential habits with the same dedication he sticks to his treat habit -- with patience and faith! Hope you have a lovely weekend, both of you.
A "gentle close to the week" is a welcome way to enter the weekend. Thank you for this gift.
It's sobering to realize we just marked the 100th day of the year. I also had a "yikes" moment when I read those words, as this year is zipping by. Then, I took your advice and did a quick calendar dive. More happened and was accomplished than I realized. So, thank you for encouraging me to do the review. It helped me reframe my perspective in a more positive light.
The highlight of my week was my conversation with my older daughter. Our catching up and planning was accompanied by laughter, heart-filled moments, and joy.
The other lovely highlight and 'make my day' moment was your kind words and generous mention of my upcoming organizing workshop this month. Thank you, dear Kara, for including me in your "5 Things" this week. It's a joy to know you, and I appreciate all the wonderful people you've connected me with.
I'm so glad to know the review worked for you, Linda — it was an essential reframe for me. And I love how you describe your catch-up with your daughter; it sounds like an absolute highlight!
Always a pleasure to point people your way...you help so many people regain a bit of control of their lives in the most essential ways. Hope you find many more fruitful connections in this next workshop!
Loved your interview on Michelle’s Substack. Just subscribed.
Thank you so much for reading!! Michelle has such a lovely and creative way of looking at the world, I think you'll appreciate it.
Thank you, Liz! So glad you enjoyed it. ✨
