The editor-in-chief usually describes what you’re about to read, stringing together a bunch of unrelated stories in order to create an umbrella or organizing principle for the issue. There has to be some sort of logic for why all these features and front-of-book pieces are living next to each other, right? (There usually isn’t, but they somehow make it work.)
