The secret to always taking the stairs
Oh, hi friends!
Do you have any always or never rules? Things that you do (or avoid) no matter the circumstance?
I decided “always take the stairs” was going to be one of my always rules. When faced with an escalator or stairs, I don’t debate…I climb. Beyond 60 seconds of extra cardio for the day (yay me humblebrag), the real benefit is eliminating choice.
Perhaps this is why people have “running streaks”—long stretches of running at least a mile every day, or writing streaks.
There's no hedging. There's less debate, more doing.
More than anything, always or never rules give you freedom.
This is the most brilliant and insightful book on journalism I've ever read. (And I've read a lot of them. Because that's what people with impostor syndrome do.)
If you write (or want to write) narrative nonfiction, News to Me: Finding and Writing Colorful Feature Stories is a must-read. The writer prefaces his feature stories with tips on how to find ideas (ask questions of everyone you meet), how to interview (start gently), how to write ledes (don't be boring)…seriously, just read it!
Protein Makes You Stronger (or Something)
And speaking of running, I've been doing a lot of it lately, and I've been diligent about consuming enough protein because it eases recovery and makes me feel less like garbage than my preferred 100% ice-cream-and-cookie diet. So, seriously, throw this vanilla protein goodness into a blender with a frozen banana and some instant coffee (trust me) and your whole world will change. #notanad #justreallytasty
Thank you for reading.
Love, Kara
