Oh, hi friends!
How can you help yourself today?
Giving yourself 10 minutes to breathe, nudging past a mental obstacle, looping in a nicer narrative, setting a schedule, starting a Pomodoro, responding to a contact, closing your tabs, hiding your phone, bundling up for a walk, reading a chapter, having a second cup of coffee, buying the lunch that’s $3 more but 3x as delicious, opening the Google Doc, saying “sorry, but I can’t,” buying the ticket, looking at old photos, organizing the junk drawer, writing two lines, beginning the newsletter draft…
You probably have even more ideas.
Can you choose one?
“If I waited until I knew what I was doing and how to do it, I still wouldn't have anything. I wouldn't have done anything.”
My latest podcast episode is with the wonderful singer and actor Liz Callaway, whose new Stephen Sondheim tribute album (which she also produced!) is available now.
Buy on her site for the wonderful stories in the liner notes and it’s also available on streaming platforms — YOU MUST LISTEN TO IT. Alright, I’ll stop shouting. But it’s perfect.
In our chat, she talks about starting before you’re ready, her methods for getting things done, and her must-reads on creativity.
One favorite detail: Austin Kleon sent her a link to a Sondheim craft seminar from 1971 (here it is), which she listened to on a plane and that led to the lightbulb moment of wanting to create this album.
And so…she did.
The definition of doing it today!!!
Go out and create your own breaks, friend.
