Oh, hi friends!
You can nudge a deadline back a few days (I did this yesterday).
You can stay up until 2 a.m. to get something off your plate (I also did this yesterday).
You can send the email you don’t want to send—but know you must (going to do this today).
You can have a light day, or a packed day.
You can cancel a plan, follow up with a ghost, hunt down an answer.
You can.
You will.
You are.
And soon you’ll be on to the next.
“It's just like: What can I do? Can I take the time to do this? Will I be crazy and miserable if I do this? That's basically everything. And that involves every kind of performing, doing benefits, being a guest in somebody's club act, whatever it is that people ask you to do on your time off, you have to gauge it and go like, Yes, this is worth it. Or no, I don't want to.”
The great actor and singer Ann Harada is on today’s podcast, and she mentioned how she finds time to balance her many projects. My Oprah lightbulb moment: I definitely could have avoided a few frustrating situations in my work life if I had asked myself at the beginning: “Will I be crazy and miserable if I do this?”
And big news, Ann is heading back to Into the Woods on Broadway starting today, hooray! Listen to our end-of-summer chat about Cape Cod, Avenue Q, Milky White (the cow!), taking her kid off to college and more on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, my website, or your favorite podcast platform.
PS — My show notes are always full of links to anything mentioned in the episodes, just putting it out there so you don’t have to ever Google anything again xoxo.
A Thing I Made That I Actually Like Lol
Oh goodness! My new book, Do It Today: An Encouragement Journal is coming out two weeks from today. That’s wild! This one has chapters on going toward your nerves, “percolating” instead of being productive, bouncing back after sweet rejection, and much more. I’m…proud of it, actually? Can I say that? Do I Believe it?? (I’m trying.) It feels even more like me, like us, like this space right here full of possibility. And it’s also beautifully illustrated by Tyler Spangler!
Pre-orders are super important—they tell your publisher (and retailers) this is a book with buzz—so if you’d like to get your copy on October 11, please drop in an order now on Amazon, Bookshop, or your favorite local store.
But I also wanted to mention, as I did with the first journal, if you’d really love a copy but are unable to afford one right now—I got you. Drop me a line.
Thanks for all your support over the years. Let’s keep feeding the encouragement loop.
Thank you, Kara, for taking the time to reply to me. I do appreciate it. Best wishes.
Kara, Congratulations on your new book. I am wondering how do you keep track of what you have written in the past in your newsletter? Thank you.
