What if you already have everything you need
+ notecards are my life now + our homes, our reflections
Oh, hi friends!
What if you already had everything you need for the next step?
This idea came up twice last week. I interviewed someone for my podcast and they mentioned wanting to work with a certain company to take their speaking career to the next level.
But they put off reaching out, even though they knew this was the relationship they needed to move forward.
Put it off and put it off until finally, the moment was “right.”
And they were told, “Great! Let’s get started. And you know you had everything you needed to reach out to me two years ago, right?”
Whew…
Someone else told me a similar story. They were waiting to reach out to managers until their writing clips were “ready” and they had enough material.
Then an opportunity came up, a manager said “send me your stuff,” the friend pulled together a bunch of writing samples (they had more than they thought), and guess what…
They were told, “Great! And you know you had everything you needed to reach out two years ago, right?”
Oh my.
Don’t hold back. Don’t wait.
What if you already have everything you need for the next step?
“If it’s worth caring about, it’s worth writing down.”
Another gem from Seth Godin. Lately I’ve been keeping a stack of 3x5 notecards at my desk and jotting down notes, reminders, and ideas during the day.
The tiny size keeps them accessible and, more importantly, gets them all out of my head.
My 84 Year Old Landlord REACTS to my Apartment Makeover
OK, this is such a YouTube-y headline, what a great video. This guy Drew spent two years renovating his rental (!) apartment and finally showed his landlord what he was up to — the result is so inspiring and gorgeous! We’re talking Architectural Digest.
Our homes and space can reflect who we are or help us become who we want to be — calm, organized, creative, energetic.
Alright, time to get back to Kondo-ing…have a great Monday, friends.
Oh hi, PS! — Welcome to the first newsletter on Substack! Many tweaks to come, but meanwhile, all of my previous newsletters (1,000+ of them) are available on my site under Archive, and they’re searchable too. It’s wild! And scary.
We also have the ability to post comments, <3 individual newsletters, and more easily share these notes. I’d love to hear from you, and maybe this will be a new way to make connections among friends. I hope this is useful? Maybe??
And if you use Gmail and would like this to go straight to your inbox, drag it from your Promotions or Updates folder to your Primary folder and the email gods should understand what to do soon enough.
Thanks for being here with me!!
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
You can also support my work by checking out my motivational journal, Do It For Yourself, designed to guide you through your creative and work projects, and my upcoming journal Do It Today, which encourages you to find time for the things that matter most to you.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
