Oh, hi friends!
Little bit of recalibrating going on over here. How about you?
For me that looks like closing my eyes to all the things and choosing one of the things.
That’s what I did yesterday. Knew I wasn’t in the headspace to do emails, or get out the newsletter, but I really needed to do this one multi-tentacled admin task. So I finished gathering a bunch of names and addresses for folks who are getting sent a copy of the new journal, and I wrote a draft of the accompanying letter and sent that off.
Was it creative? Not really. Was it useful? Yes.
And now it’s done!
What can you do today that feels useful and practical and will free up your mind?
Cheryl Strayed on putting your heart into it:
I’ve spent the past couple of months going back and forth between Portland and LA, so I could be on the set of Tiny Beautiful Things, the TV show, which will soon be out on Hulu. It’s been a surreal and astonishing experience to witness the book spring to life on screen in a way that’s both utterly different from and entirely true to it. I’m equal parts excited and terrified for you all to see it. Which I suppose is a good thing. Excitement and terror means I put my heart into it (as have so many glorious other people). Excitement and terror is like this beautiful autumnal equinox: the perfect balance of day and night.
Wishing you (and myself) more moments of excitement and terror.
Do You Need a Nag?
Nagbot will text you and ask whether you did something.
It’s free and sounds annoying and might be exactly the kind of accountability I — I mean, you, I mean, we — need! I’m giving it a try!!! There’s even a setting where you can make it say mean things if you don’t do what you said you would do. (But my gentle spirit can’t take that, I’ll be ok with the soft nudge.)
