Oh, hi friends!
I’ve been thinking about wind-downs and warm-ups, and how these small routines can provide essential check-ins.
For the past few weeks, I’ve copy-and-pasted the following “wind-down” from my to-do list each day.
Nightly Wind-Down
Review today and assess how good it went
Create tomorrow’s schedule
Lay out running clothes, lights out at midnight
Look at tomorrow’s weather
It’s kind of basic, right? Like do I really need these reminders?
Except…I do! When I forget to wind-down, the next day starts with hiccups.
I didn’t know it was going to rain, where’s my jacket?
Is my meeting for Tuesday or Wednesday?
What is my goal for today? What am I even working on? What is life???
These nightly reminders — write the schedule, pick a bedtime, prepare — can be tiny gifts for your sleepy, cozy morning self, and warm up your day in the right way.
What wind-down sounds right to you?
When and where were you happiest? Pittsford, New York, writing my first book when our kids were small, riding my bike to work because we only had one car…that feeling of being needed and loved and vitally involved in something artistic that I didn’t fully understand, everything still lying ahead of us.
