Seeing both sides now
Oh, hi friends!
Lately, I was debating between jumping onboard to a big freelance project.
As I weighed the pros and cons, I (of course) chattered away about it, trying to find someone else to make the decision for me.
When I was analyzing it with my friend Aransas, she said: “I hear a lot of dread in your voice when you’re talking about this.”
DREAD. Not hesitation, or even nervousness. Dread!
(Plus, I was highlighting all the negative parts of the gig, rather than looking for the good things that might come from it.)
Dread is a big clue. It outweighed any other story I was telling myself. Because if it was this strong now, weeks before beginning, how strong would it be on my first day?
If you hear the dread, go in the other direction.
“Taking the time to write stream of consciousness about an area in your life when you're feeling stuck is one of the best ways to smoke out the sneaky, sucky, hidden beliefs that are holding you back.”
Just a little piece of advice on smoking out some of what you don’t want. From Jen Sincero’s Badass Habits book. (Amazon) (Bookshop)
An Absolute Must Watch (Trust Me)
Joni Mitchell singing “Both Sides Now” with Brandi Carlile from just a few days ago. It’s been nine years since Joni sang in public, and seven years since she had a brain aneurysm that forced her to relearn how to walk, talk, and play guitar again. "You have to learn all these things by rote again," Mitchell said. "You're going back to infancy almost. You've got to relearn everything." And she did.
