Impostor syndrome

brassringdaily.substack.com

Oh, hi friends!

I was just thinking about all the impossibly wonderful people I know — especially people who’ve been laid off lately, or are under-recognized by their industries, or who have so many competing commitments they have to divvy up their days like sushi rolls.

When I think about them, I don’t say: They’ve lost their cachet because they’re searching for their next gig.

I don’t say, They don’t have ‘it’ because they’re not a headliner, or because didn’t get that role.

I don’t say, They’re not a serious artist/worker/entrepreneur/human because their life can’t revolve 24/7 around what they love.

But I wonder why we so often say the same things about ourselves?

Things we can’t control: Linear advancement, external validation, obligations.

Things we can control: Second drafts, internal dedication, returning to the task.

You don’t believe the people around you are impostors.

So how could you be one?
