Oh, hi friends!

Shrug it off.

The sleepy Monday. The ball you dropped. The ditched event. The botched assignment. The text you missed. The page that’s bare. The silent client. The customer who didn’t care.

Shrug it off.

Today is new.

“Criticism is both temporary and survivable.”

From DeConstructing Criticism: Filtering Feedback to Achieve Your Truest Work

I just loved reading this insanely smart and helpful book by my new friend and fellow BMI workshop lyricist and playwright Jae Broderick.

If you make anything, you’re going to get feedback. How do you know what to take in? And what to leave behind? Her book will help — a lot.

Start with that reminder: temporary and survivable.

Make Your Shitty Life Better!

Kimberly Akimbo is one of the best musicals I’ve seen in years (I’ve definitely name-checked it in this newsletter before…). This song “Better” sung by incredible powerhouse Bonnie Milligan is perfection. What a reminder to always be specific in your writing.

Song also doubles as a good wintertime pick-me-up anthem lol wow my friends the all-day rain in New York yesterday really got me, but it’s over now! We get a fresh start!!! Off we go.

Subscribe to move forward with your most meaningful work in 2023.
