Oh, hi friends!
You deserve more credit than you’re giving yourself.
Here’s a story. A few days ago, a nice newsletter reader named Carlijn from Amsterdam emailed me with this subject line:
Looks like your accomplishments are even greater?
They read my Quartz article where I reference writing 1,155 newsletters and noticed…that actually wasn’t accurate.
I’d apparently misnumbered my newsletters more than once, resulting in my count going backwards (from 1,213 back to 1,124) not once, but multiple times.
So I checked my Substack archive, and guess what?
I thought I wrote 1,155 newsletters, but I’ve actually written…1,344!*
An extra 189 days. A bonus 189 issues.
Funny, right?
So I’m just wondering…
What credit do you deserve that you’re not allowing yourself to see?
What have you created or accomplished or moved forward that you’ve already forgotten?
(Our memories are quicksilver.)
Don’t let a busy time pull you away from the truth.
You know what you’ve done.
What you’re already doing.
Last year around this time, I asked you to finish this sentence:
This year, I'm grateful I finally decided to...
Your responses became my best newsletters of the year. (Read them: Part One and Part Two.)
And I want to — need to — hear what happened this year.
So let’s do it again.
This year, I’m grateful I finally decided to…
Add your response in this form, or simply hit “reply” and let me know.
I’ll share them this week.
You deserve the credit.
You really do.
This year, I’m grateful I finally decided to…
