Oh, hi friends!
The task was hanging over me for, oh, two months.
I’d see the emails in my inbox.
Lots of moving parts. Contracts to read, checklists to check. Drafts to dig up, collaborators to chat with.
It was my kryptonite: a multi-pronged task without a deadline.
So it didn’t get done…for months.
Until, finally!
A forcing function appeared.
(“Forcing function” is a favorite phrase of my friend Aransas — isn’t it perfect?)
An email that said: November 6 is the day this needs to be done.
Ugh. But also, yay?
So, of course, on November 5, I cranked through it all.
Yes, I could have done it earlier. (And avoided working for a chunk of my Sunday.)
But the task got done. And I’m so relieved! All that space in my brain can now go toward something else.
What task has been hanging over you for more than a week? More than a month?
If you need it, consider this email your forcing function.
Get it done — or move it forward — and you will feel relief, too.
Your brain deserves that space back.
