Oh, hi friends!
December is December-ing, right?
For the last two weeks I’ve been doing a “sprint” co-working session with a lovely group of strangers.
This meant working on one big new project Monday to Thursday, 10am to 12pm, with a 30-minute group mastermind at the end.
We shared our goals, tracked our efforts, and reflected on our progress.
It was transformative.
Because it’s always so hard to choose, you know? (At least it is for me.)
But there was only one choice: What did I want to work on?
Showing up became a non-negotiable. I committed to the time and the project (which was writing new screenplay!) — and hey, if I didn’t like the project, it would be over in a few days.
This sprint ran counter to my default modes of working:
1) Tsunami then silence, aka a major burst of energy and effort and then abandoning something for months
2) Dabbling every day in different mediums, making no real evident progress
Instead, this felt like sustained consistency, after which I could see that…I did do a lot!
When I took out the guesswork and indecision, it didn’t take long for the ideas to solidify and the pages to add up.
So that’s the question I want to bring to you:
Where would you like to be more consistent?
And a follow-up question:
What can you turn into a non-negotiable?
I loved how this author shared their experience. Then Mark Harris, Margaret Atwood, Flavor Flav (!), Cheryl Strayed, and many more writers chiming in to say similar experiences happened to them. It’s not always parties and bestseller lists! There are heartbreaks, too.
Proof that sharing what you do have, especially when it’s a truthful experience, will find the audience it’s meant to find.
If You Want to Shed a Happy Little Tear
All I care about in the world is Doldol, this tiny rescue elephant. Btw, you can “adopt” rescue elephants through the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and receive updates on them throughout the year. Consider this my 2022 gift guide lol. (h/t Colin, of course)
