7 Things That Made Life Better This Week

• My friend Danielle brought Laderach chocolate for my book launch snack party and honestly it’s the best chocolate I’ve ever had. And they ship! 

• Finally reading through Putting It Together: How Stephen Sondheim and I Created Sunday in the Park with George by James Lapine and I adore the in-depth look at their creative process. Handwritten notes on typewritten scenes! Swoon!

• These sweet 30 seconds of producer and Broadway stage manager Cody Renard Richard calling “POTUS GO” at this week’s Broadway for Biden event. (I interviewed Cody for the podcast last year, which you can listen to here!)

• For the past few weeks, I’ve been reading Daily Rituals: How Artists Work by

  Mason Currey
  . Even though I love Mason’s newsletter, I was ashamed to admit I hadn’t read his book! But these snapshots into artist’s lives were exactly what I needed each morning. Now I’m onto book number two. And this is a reminder that reading about something is never a perfect substitute for reading the actual thing.

• Linda Samuels is holding a Zoom workshop on Oct. 19 about easy ways to practice mindful organizing! (Linda is responsible for completely transforming my work routines after one conversation on my podcast.) More on her workshop here.

• Speaking of workshops, the BMI Workshop resumed after our summer break — never underestimate the power of being around people who are nice and are working hard on their dreams. I brought in two scenes from our musical Marathon and was invigorated by thoughtful feedback. The wheels keep turning…

• Another delight this week: Following up with people. A reminder to get it out of your head and out into the world. You will feel so much better.
