Excuse me, what day is it?!

Oh, hi friends!
Whatcha doing?
I don’t want to freak you out, but did you know it’s October 17?
Ock. Toe. Ber. Seven. Teen.
Whaaat?
Halloween (meh), Thanksgiving (yum), Christmas (eee!), New Year’s (pop!), and much more.
So.
That’s.
A lot.
But funny thing is…we all knew this was coming. We always do! And we don’t have to let it derail our lives, our projects, our work, our joy, our fun.
One thing I’m trying is to take 10 minutes every morning to look at my calendar for the day — and for the rest of the week. Where are pockets of time I can set aside? What do I actually want to inch forward on this week? ‘Cause those weeks are gonna go. (But, like I said, I don’t want to freak you out! This is just me, having no chill.)
But the good news is…you’ve got a whole Friday (and weekend) to play with.
How will you use it before you lose it?
“I think if you've got people on your side, if you've got people really laughing, you are able to make them cry.”
Tone is a funny thing when you’re writing, isn’t it? Maybe you think you’re writing a drama — or even a dramatic, tension-filled work email — but why can’t you drop in a funny line? And if you have folks laughing with a story you’re telling, who says you can’t switch to a more serious moment? So long as you have people on your side, you can really do anything…
The above quote is from this piece on writing tips from Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Other advice includes knowing when to leave a project, pushing boundaries, and consulting experts — she talked to a monk for inspiration for the Hot Priest character in Season Two. Of course.

Been listening to a lot of so-called “I Want” and “I Am” songs from musicals to churn my brain for the song I’m writing — a character song for Midge in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Tall order, that.
"I Want" songs usually come in the very beginning of a musical, after the opening number, and tell you all you need to know about a main character. Done right, they can be killer. Thought you might enjoy a listen to these classics, too. Here's my Spotify playlist with some selections from Gypsy, West Side Story, Camelot, Pippin, and more.
What would your "I Want" song sound like right now?
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
