Where do you need to be?

Oh, hi friends!
Rehearsal ended. It was 8pm. I hadn’t eaten dinner. I was in Times Square, lights and sounds flicking at me from every angle. But I was floating above it all.
Not that there wasn’t work to do. (A lot of work.) Yet I wasn’t anxious, because there was a voice that told me, “You are exactly where you need to be.” And that cuts like a ringing bell, straight through the lights and sounds and doubts.
And that is why you do the work. That is why you keep coming back.
When do you feel those fleeting moments? Where are you? Who are you with? Are your hands in the garden? On a keyboard? Are you racing to a finish line? Or staring up at the ceiling, waiting for the words to come?
If you're not there often enough, how can you get closer?
Because that is where you need to be.

“I guard my memories and love them, but I don’t get in them and lie down. You can make stories from yours, but remember, they don’t come back. Just think how awful it would be if they did. …make a story out of some of those notes. …get busy at growing up to be the person you want to be.”
