YOU: I don’t know how to start. ME: Here’s an idea…

Oh, hi friends!
I was going to write about doing the one thing you’ve been putting off…
Or the joy of fulfilling an annoying errand…
Or the necessity of collaboration or accountability…
Or the virtues of finishing something…
Or the joy of being in the right rooms — the rooms that make you feel right…
Or the excitement of seeing your friends succeed…
Or of seeing your own skills progress, bit by bit, brick by brick…
I was going to write about calling up a friend and saying, Hey, you, let’s put on a show…
Or the hand-wringing over quitting your job…
Or watching opportunities sputter and die — and how that always opens a window into something new…
I was going to write about writing more and writing less.
And then I wrote this instead.
And that, in the six minutes it took to write this, is what I actually wanted to say.
You won’t ever know what to say, until you try and say it.

I have a new best friend and it is this bird. (h/t Lila Tublin)
"Because no matter how miserable the writing gets, no matter how disheartened I can get, even my worst writing day never feels as bad as it did when I tried to live a life away from it.”
A punch in the gut!!
That’s author R.O. Kwon talking about her origin story from this very excellent interview. Other topics include: setting up a writing routine, skincare recs, haircare! (h/t Delia Cai)
