What they want from you

Oh, hi friends!
Yesterday I wrote about noticing what you gravitate toward in conversations or bookstores or in your brain.
Here’s another thing that’s interesting to notice:
What do you talk most confidently about?
I had a few conversations recently with collaborators about projects and I had very strong thoughts about what I found interesting and what I liked or didn’t like or where I thought a story should go, and I knew all this, instantly, and could tell them why.
I can compare that to other conversations about topics that I felt completely indifferent about — and I could barely form a sentence, much less a coherent opinion.
Whatever you talk most confidently about, that’s probably what people want to hear from you. And it's what they need to hear from you.

“Only when I’m gentle with myself can I actually really let go and do the work.”
In this great interview with Marie Forleo, Cheryl Strayed talks about how to become a writer and the power of art. (h/t Selina Zhong)
