Would you like a compliment?

Oh, hi friends!
What kind of affirmation do you need for whatever you’re working on right now?
Sometimes the attention we seek comes in the form of clicks or likes.
(Love this!!!)
Sometimes it’s from starting a discussion or making a change.
(You’ve made me think in a whole new way.)
Other times the affirmation we want comes from ourselves, to prove that we can do something.
(I’m so proud of myself!)
All are valid in different ways!
But the trick, I think, is knowing which one you’re looking for, so you don’t stand around waiting for the others.

“I dropped the air conditioner out the window.”
Oh boy! Every New Yorker’s worst nightmare. (Our air conditioners are precariously propped in our windowsills; it’s a whole thing.)
This wonderful essay for Money by Sara Lieberman is a cautionary tale about the true cost of a break-up and what happens when a couple splits expenses down the middle — and then something major (see: the air conditioner) happens.

Saw a matinee of Sondheim’s musical Road Show at New York City Center over the weekend, and oh, how I loved it so. Here’s a crackly video from 2003 of one of my favorite songs, “Talent.”
I had this dream of becoming an artist
|A painter, a poet, who knows?
I had a nice little talent for drawing
And a natural feeling for prose
I even began to compose
So many talents
Wasn't I blessed?
All of them good
A few of them better
None of them best
(Don’t worry guys, he has an alternative plan…)
