How to not let summer slip away
Oh, hi friends!
Did you ever write those “here’s what I did on summer vacation” essays in school?
I’m convinced teachers assigned them because there was so much bouncy energy in class, everyone riding high off three months spent in a pool or on a beach or traveling somewhere. Let them focus on that for a second…
But they were also a neat marker of time, a closing of a chapter.
You could reflect back before moving on to whatever the school year had in store.
I wonder what would happen if you wrote that essay now, before summer was over.
What would happen if you imagined all you wanted to do and see and experience, and put it all down on paper.
Maybe imagining how you want to spend your summer will make it all happen, just as you want it to.
Ouch, Jonny, give it to me straight, why doncha?
The wheel spins and spins,
Climbing high, handing wins.
You sit above
Or sit below.
Where will it stop?
You simply don't know.
Nothing like a grainy ancient YouTube clip to make you feel feels. This is "All the Wasted Time” from Jason Robert Brown’s musical Parade.
PS — Remember when Rosie O’Donnell had Broadway stars perform during her daytime talk show? Such a great outlet for theater!
