Before the break

Oh, hi friends!
It’s OK that you didn’t get everything done you needed to get done.
(You will eventually do it.)
It’s OK that your brain is focused on ice cream and beaches.
(You should enjoy the summer.)
It’s OK that you don’t know what’s next.
(No one does.)
It’s all OK.
(That feels like it deserves some exclamation marks.)
It’s all OK!!!

“There is nothing more beneficial to one’s career, state of mind, and personal confidence than WORKING! Working hard on anything – whether it’s that latte you’re making for some rich douchebag, or the spreadsheet you have to redo, or the clever tweet you’re crafting, the open mic you’re tackling, the sketch idea you’re mulling over, the slightly annoying comedian you’re chatting with backstage – FUCKING WORK ON IT. Don’t sit there and wonder why you got stood up for the dance; fucking sew yourself a pink dress with weird angles and SHOW UP ANYWAY. And don’t just work, work with a damn smile on your face. Stop complaining that you have to work. What did you think you would have to do? Open your eyes one morning and suddenly see a brick of gold bullion sleeping softly next to you?”
I re-stumbled across this article of ‘advice for a young comedian’ written by Sara Schaefer, and remembered how much it resonated with me when I first read it years ago, and thought about how much it still resonated now, proving that, perhaps, things don’t change as much as you think!

The New Yorker is hiring a director of newsletters. (Hey, I like newsletters! You probably do, too!) (h/t Caitlin Kunkel)
Saturday Night Live is hiring writers for next season through an open submissions process. (Hey, I like writing! You probably do, too!)
And finally, I leave you with this, my favorite news story of the year...
Scientists "speechless" after Arctic fox makes 2,176-mile, 76-day trek from Norway to Canada.
She averaged about 28 miles per day.
“Some days, however, the ambitious fox walked over 96 miles.”
THIS FOX IS MY HERO. LET US ALL CHANNEL THIS FOX DURING THESE WANING FEW HOURS BEFORE A NATIONAL HOLIDAY [IF YOU ARE LIVING IN THE U.S.] AND MAY WE ALL GET TO OUR DESTINATIONS QUICKLY, SAFELY, AND LOOKING JUST AS CUTE AND FLUFFY.
Brass Ring Daily will be taking a brief nap Thursday and Friday for the Fourth of July holiday. I’ll see you back here very soon!
