There’s a really good explanation

Oh, hi friends!
What’s that smell? Oh, right, it’s the fumes that you might be running on at the end of the week!!! They are hittin’ me, for sure. How about you?
Maybe you’ve been piling up the work travel or bouncing from one project to another or pulling twice your weight at work because they never hired someone for that role that is not yours but somehow has become yours, in addition to your full-time job?
Wow. You’re doing a lot. No wonder you’re fume-y.
It’s OK. It’s gonna be OK.
The fumes will get you through today, you’re going to take a second this weekend to regroup, and you’ll magically have a full tank Monday.
Is that a deal?
A wonderful case study is Eliud Kipchoge, who just shattered the marathon world record. He’s literally the best in the world at what he does.
Yet Kipchoge says that the key to his success is not overextending himself in training. He’s not fanatical about trying to be great all the time. Instead, he has an unwavering dedication to being good enough. He recently told The New York Times that he rarely, if ever, pushes himself past 80 percent—90 percent at most—of his maximum effort during workouts. This allows Kipchoge to string together weeks and weeks of consistent training. “I want to run with a relaxed mind,” he says.
Whew. The case for being good enough. (h/t Kat’s Kable, my favorite newsletter for discovering longer form articles I’d like to read)
