How to get going on a Monday
Oh, hi friends!
Are you getting bogged down by the details?
Maybe you want to search for a job but are torn between browsing LinkedIn or networking or cold-emailing people.
Or maybe you want to post some Instagram Reels or TikToks but have no idea how to create a proper video.
You’ve also got that idea for a children’s book, but self-publishing seems hard and finding an agent even harder, so…
Beginnings have so many details. Too many.
Time to streamline.
Update your LinkedIn in the morning with your best effort, send it to a smart friend in the afternoon, take their notes, then start applying to jobs.
Open up Instagram, pull up Reels, and start clicking around. Make something — anything.
Create a Google Doc, title it “Children’s Book Idea July 2022” and write down everything in your brain related to this idea.
Start somewhere.
It might not be perfect, but at least you won’t be bogged down.
“And I think that’s the innovation of “The Wire.” It’s the first visual novel that really respects the intelligence of the audience, and knowing, if you are truthful and authentic, the audience will stick with you as you develop story and character.”
So I’m in the middle of watching The Wire for the first time (I know, I know, where have I been; and yes, yes, it’s even better than everyone says).
Now I’m even more excited to see Wendell Pierce (aka Bunk) play Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman on Broadway this fall. Lots of lessons in this profile of Pierce; but especially loved his emphasis above on being truthful and authentic — two qualities important in every piece of art, not just television.
Fathers,
Mothers,
People make mistakes,
Holding to their own,
Thinking they're alone.
Honor their mistakes
Everybody makes
Fight for their mistakes
One another's terrible mistakes.
Witches can be right, Giants can be good.
You decide what's right you decide what's good
Eleri Ward’s version of “No One Is Alone” is perfection! She recorded her Sondheim EP in her closet during the pandemic; now she’s opening for Josh Groban. I’ll never get tired of this story.
