This week's quick lesson
Oh, hi friends!
Here’s a little “six degrees of asking for help” story...
Last week I messaged a former colleague on Instagram asking for his advice on a new project.
We haven’t worked together in ages, but he’s very good at what he does and I thought, Why not just ask? What’s the worst that could happen?
He very kindly answered my questions, and through asking for help and getting more data, I felt a little more confident in moving forward.
Then this week, he forwarded along an opportunity and asked if I might be interested. (I’m certain I came to mind because we had just talked.)
The timing’s not right for me, but hey — what about the friend who emailed me that morning and said she’s looking for a new job?
This project might be a good match for her so I passed along her info.
Maybe something will happen, maybe it won’t, but it is something new.
A new connection, a new meeting, new information, new inputs.
And I guess I’m on the hunt for examples that prove my point from earlier this week…
Opportunities are always attached to people.
So keep talking to people, asking for help, and sharing the wealth. It all comes back around.
Have an excellent weekend!
“’I taught myself by watching YouTube videos,’ she said. Ms. Clericuzio usually begins sanding down a piece on Thursday night, and then uploads a completed tutorial on Sunday. Tens of thousands of her Instagram and TikTok followers wait for them to appear, and then she sells the items through Facebook Marketplace.”
I’ve always loved going to garage sales and thrift stores — there’s so much satisfaction in giving new life to old items.
“Furniture flipping” is big on TikTok now, some light shed on the trend in this fun piece, perhaps inspiration to sand and stain for the holiday weekend? (h/t Danielle Friedman for sending)
