The alternative to a five-year plan
Oh, hi friends!
Think long-term, they say.
But if you can’t picture where you want to be five years from now, why not start with five months?
And if five months feels overwhelming, why not look at five weeks from now?
And if that makes you want to hide under the bed, consider five days from today.
Actually, a lot can happen in five days, so let’s just focus on…the next five hours.
What’s the best way you can spend that time?
Not in terms of maximizing your productivity or cramming in everything before the holiday.
But by asking,
What’s your most immediate short-term goal?
For the short-but-long period of five whole hours?
Doing one important thing in the next five hours is possible…
…now can you lock it in during the next five minutes?
“He added, more sincerely, that he didn’t start making films until his late 20s, at which point he’d already been a graphic artist, a musician and a comedian. ‘I don’t know if I’ve ever chased any of my dreams,’ Waititi said. ‘My dreams have sort of developed through being part of the dream.’”
I’ve seen maybe one Marvel movie in my life, but I really enjoyed this profile of Taika Waititi, who co-created Reservation Dogs, one of my favorite recent TV series, and is prepping some new Roald Dahl projects for Netflix (among many, many other things, including directing and co-writing a new movie called Thor — heard of it?).
How does he do it? “Pivoting every couple of hours,” he said.
But I like his observation that his dreams weren’t some faraway object, but rather a development, a progression.

Claire S. (who described herself as a longtime listener, first-time caller) replied yesterday and said she’s on a yearlong streak taking language lessons through Preply, which connects you to expert online language tutors. They speak, on my rough count, nearly two dozen languages!
Wanted to share for anyone who wants to practice a new language—and I love the reminder that the more info I share in this newsletter, the more info I receive back!
