Hi it’s me
Oh, hi friends!
It’s been a minute. (Do people still say that?)
I went on a proper vacation, to Bologna and Venice, and thankfully the travel gods were kind to us. Family, lasagna, friends, gelato. I watched two good movies on the plane (Bull Durham and King Richard) and four Gilmore Girls episodes, and didn’t fiddle with my laptop. Truly, I tuned out. And it was nice.
Then, within 24 hours of getting home, I had an idea for a big new project. One that checks a bunch of boxes (talking about process, getting back to interviewing, boosting my commitment to this newsletter, learning a new skill). I was so excited I texted friends, started researching, bought gear.
Then, you know...
Do you also find it impossible to focus on moving forward when the country you live in is hurtling violently backwards?
Maybe you’re not feeling rested after a weekend designed to give you time off.
Maybe you’re exhausted, angry, hopeless.
But I know, for sure, there has to be at least one small thing you can do today that will make you feel a little bit better. More aligned. More awake.
Your one small thing is yours and yours alone.
Do it, if you can (and I know you can). And I’ll see you tomorrow.
“When a piece of theater is good — and I feel like everybody is struggling and reaching for that — you walk out of the theater feeling more alive. And for me, wrestling with what it means to be alive is the eternal question.”

From an absorbing collection of portraits and anecdotes from Tony nominees. But it also directs a light at the role art and our own seemingly personal projects can play in the wider world.
What you are making matters.
And If You’re Interested in Newsletters…
Tomorrow I’m doing a roundtable talk through the Authors Guild about creating and engaging through this very medium. (Shhh, don’t tell them I’ve slacked on sending them.) Free to attend! It’s at 2:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. PT and you can register here. Hope to see you.
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
You can also support my work by checking out my motivational journal, Do It For Yourself, designed to guide you through your creative and work projects, and my upcoming journal Do It Today, which encourages you to find time for the things that matter most to you.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
