Self reminder
Oh, hi friends!
When you’re creating, you’re not looking at your Amazon ranking. You’re not refreshing your inbox. You stop wondering who texted you in the last 15 minutes, or who you need to text back.
When you’re creating, you’re not clicking around on that other writer’s website, the one who describes herself as writing “for the stage and screen.” You don’t feel envy or impostor syndrome (at least not when the creating’s going well).
When you’re creating, the minutiae falls away. You’re less focused on the analytics, the response, the critics, the waiting.
You are adding up. You are building. And that is a very nice — perhaps your favorite — place to be.
Superproducer Rick Rubin is known as the “music whisperer” (or maybe I made that up??).
I took this quote from his Twitter, but now the original link has disappeared. Maybe he tweets once a day and then deletes it, which actually puts into practice this sentiment — the work, and what you’re sharing, only has to reflect this once specific moment in time.
What’s this moment in time for you?
Jon Batiste won a million Grammy Awards at this year’s ceremony. I love his get-up-and-move song, “Freedom.” Perfect pick-me-up!
