Your point
Oh, hi friends!
How important is cutting and trimming our work, of making it as clear and simple as possible?
It can be the difference between being great and creating frustration.
How many people say, “I wish that musical could have been longer” or “I wish that book had 50 more pages"?
Alright, maybe sometimes we *do* say this, but the context is usually positive.
We enjoyed it; we want more.
But wanting less or feeling like the work has overextended itself…that’s never good.
That gives someone a reason to tune out.
“Overstuffed, too scattered, lack of resolution.”
“What is this company selling anyway?”
Or the worst: “I was confused.”
With your work, your business, your article: What is the *one* major takeaway you want to share?
What is the point?
Define it yourself.
Choose for them.
Start there.
“[Mindy] Kaling thanks me for not asking her whether she experiences imposter syndrome, a question she apparently gets a lot. ‘I don’t see anyone asking Mike Schur or Aaron Sorkin if they have imposter syndrome,’ she says, of her male writing counterparts. ‘I worked at The Office for eight years doing 24 episodes a year. If I had imposter syndrome after that training, I’d be pathologically under-confident.’”
Doing the work erodes impostor syndrome. GOOD TO KNOW.
I just loved this TIME profile of icon Mindy Kaling, who started her own company, Kaling International, with a producing partner and two assistants. They’re developing 17 series and six movies. Cheers to doing it all.
