All you need is a kitchen table
Oh, hi friends!
What is the one thing you want most right now?
What is stopping you from getting it?
(I'm not exactly sure why these two questions came to mind. But I have a feeling answering them truthfully will lead to a valuable place.)
“Some of the earliest work on ‘Hello, Dolly!,’ ‘Meteor Shower,’ ‘The Music Man’ and ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ was done around that table,” he said. “I don’t need an office. I just need a good kitchen table.”
Fun short profile of Jerry Zaks, who’s directing The Music Man on Broadway right now, and his apartment on the Upper West Side. (Jerry, hi, we’re neighbors!! Wanna go for a walk around the reservoir?)
But I was struck by what he said about his kitchen table. Because I have one of those. You probably do, too. And maybe that is all we need at the moment. Not a perfect office, or a huge rehearsal room, or the most updated screenwriting software. But a simple table. And to gather a few people around. And to start asking, “What should we do next?”
