Hi, it’s me again (with news!)
Oh, hi friends!
How are you? I’ve missed you — you, on the other side of this email.
Basically, I felt like I needed to create some new stuff without the pressure of talking about the new stuff. Does that make sense? Maybe you’ve also felt the lure of the winter bubble, of getting quiet and not feeling so “out there.” I hope you’ve been able to reflect and regenerate and connect again to what you want most.
Also, I was kinda tired and bored. Lol. Too honest? When my own work feels sloggy, it’s hard to communicate a sense of energy and excitement to others. And that’s what I want! To encourage you to start and try new things! And that’s what we’re going to do!
So, hi, I’m back. With some fun news to share, too. I’m writing another journal! Actually, I already wrote it? In the last six months?! It’s called DO IT TODAY and it’s arriving on October 11, 2022.
Here’s yesterday’s lil Publisher’s Marketplace announcement (these blurbs are a “thing” in the publishing world, and I'm putting it here so my mom and dad can print it out and put it on the refrigerator).
I’ve been lucky enough to work with three new people on this one (Zack, a brilliant editor! Haley, an amazing agent! Tyler, a dynamic illustrator!) who have shown me how much better an idea can get with the help of other people. (This has been a big theme in my life lately — how to ask for help — more on that soon.)
Do It Today: An Encouragement Journal is about finding new sources of creative motivation. I’m going deeper with essays that share some of my own attempts and failures in the hope they might resonate with you, and we’ve also got plenty of prompts and open-ended questions to nudge you toward the big changes in your life.
Here’s the dreamy cover!
The journal is already available for pre-order on Abrams, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble (buying this far in advance may seem wild, but it makes a huge difference to retailers and the lifespan of books!).
Mostly I'm just excited to share this with you. Thank you for being there for me over these last five (!) years and all my creative twists and turns.
I have a feeling we’re just getting started.
“It’s a little ridiculous to have to trick myself into believing in my own work, and even more ridiculous that I can be tricked so simply, like a child enraptured at a magic act. But creative output of any kind depends upon a steady stream of tiny self-delusions — guardrails to keep yourself from veering into a pit of self-doubt and despair.”
If you’re stuck on something, try changing your font. (Garamond is my favorite, too.)
As We See It is one of the best shows I’ve seen in years. It’s hilarious and heartwarming (by the creator of Friday Night Lights so, you get the idea). I wish I could erase my brain so I could watch it from the beginning again for the first time. (I don't know why that trailer photo looks so cheesy!! Just trust me on this one. On Amazon Prime.)
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
You can also support my work by checking out my motivational journal, Do It For Yourself, designed to guide you through your creative and work projects, and my upcoming journal Do It Today, which encourages you to find time for the things that matter most to you.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
