Finding the time

Oh, hi friends!
It’s Sunday night and I’m riding the Q train, going uptown to see a friend's night of musical theater songs at 54 Below.
I was looking forward to these 21 minutes of train time to write...something. This newsletter. A draft. A squiggle of a lyric.
But a man just got onboard and said he wants to earn some money the honest way—by creating a magic show for all of us.
He has a kazoo. Which he's blowing, loudly. And some balloons. Which he's blowing up, loudly.
And this train ride is not so quiet after all.
Perhaps he was also looking forward to this train ride.
If you have expectations about creating—spelling out what and when and how—you are winning! But be prepared for them to be subverted, adjusted, tweaked, and molded beyond recognition. It's up to you to hold your word and keep creating anyway. And who knows? Maybe you'll make something you never expected, simply because you pressed on in spite of it all.

Open open open open open.

“If I’m going to do something, I want to learn how to do it well. I might not become the best in the world at it, but I’ll learn how the people who are the best in the world are doing it.”
This is a truly fascinating and inspiring story of Elizabeth Swaney, who competed in the freestyle ski run at the last Olympics—and was heavily criticized for not doing any tricks. Turns out she is a lifelong learner and simply competing in the Olympics was her goal. And when she has a goal…she gets it. Well worth reading!

Speaking of trying your best, here’s Kratu the Romanian rescue dog navigating his way through an agility course. May his enthusiasm and joy for tunnels guide you through your day.
