Your Monday story

Oh, hi friends!
I’m thinking about how when an actor—or anyone, really—is being interviewed, and they’re asked a question, and instead of answering it directly, they deliver an answer that is perfectly succinct, perfectly told, and not related at all to the question.
They expect the question and divert to the answer they want to give so skillfully that the audience—and the interviewer—forget the original question.
I expect they’re able to do this because they practice. They anticipate the stories they want to tell.
And I’m wondering how we can use this skill ourselves. Maybe even today.
When someone asks “how was your weekend” what story will you tell? Will you say “oh fine”? Can you highlight a favorite bit and tell that story instead? What if that will help you remember it longer? What if it helps make your weekend last through Monday?
You can anticipate the story you want to tell—and then tell it.

Springing forward.
Why I Wake Early
by Mary Oliver
Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety-
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us the warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light-
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.

Ahh, the trailer for Late Night made me laugh. Emma Thompson is queen. Mindy Kaling, also queen. Amazon bought this film for $13 million at Sundance, btw. It’s coming out June 7!
