Hi, guess what, everyone is clueless!

Oh, hi friends!
There’s a famous quote from William Goldman’s excellent book Adventures in the Screen Trade about his life in Hollywood. Despite focus tests and film executives with allegedly perfect taste, it’s still often a gamble to guess whether or not a film will be a hit.
The famous quote is: “Nobody knows anything.”
And that’s confusing and comforting, isn’t it?
Nobody knows for sure what will be a hit.
Nobody knows what will resonate with other people.
Nobody knows…anything.
But you’re somebody. And you know yourself.
What resonates with you right now?
Start there.

A pile of blank index cards makes me so happy!!!
“There’s nothing in your story that prevents you from becoming working screenwriters.”
Replace “screenwriters” with “novelists,” “painters,” “marketing geniuses,” “accountants,” whatever speaks to you.
This advice comes from Grey's Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff, who taught a class at Emerson College last month. Also appreciated this advice on being in a writers’ room and collaborating with others: “You need to be emotionally intelligent and emotionally stable….You have to work on yourself—that’s my number one message today.” (h/t The Create Daily)

HANDS DOWN THIS IS THE BEST DAY I CAN EVER RE-MEM-BER.
Who else was/is a huge Dashboard Confessional fan? In high school, I printed out their lyrics and put them on the front of my binder. There’s just something about words that you’re able to scream at the top of your lungs, right?
Here’s a smart interview with leading man Chris Carrabba. I was surprised to hear him say he’s “almost a great songwriter." Seems like this mindset makes him work harder.
Can You Help Out My Friend?
My friend Hannah Engelson is in pre-production on a short documentary and is looking for potential documentary subjects to speak with. Here’s a note from her below...do you know anyone? Please reach out if so!
I am looking for a family that spans three generations that lives together in one home, apartment, etc. in the New York metro area. At this point I’m hoping to just speak with as many families as possible in hopes of finding a good fit for an independent short documentary. People can reach out to me directly at h.engelson@gmail.com or 248-227-7214.
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
