I’m asking for three more adjectives
Oh, hi friends!
A few days ago, I asked you which three adjectives you would use to describe yourself.
As the people who read this newsletter often do, someone took this question to another, deeper level.
Julie Bradley emailed and suggested taking your three best qualities and then write down your three worst qualities…she found hers were her best qualities taken to the extreme. Mine were, too! It was scarily accurate. (For example, I’m really curious and can research something to death…which can often lead to crippling indecision between too many options.)
Think about it: Three best qualities. Three worst qualities. Do you see commonalities?
Steamy.
Next time you are catching up with a friend, try asking this question:
“If we were having tea three years from now in this exact same place, sitting in these exact same chairs, what would need to happen for each of us to be happy with those three years?”
Instead of talking about your past—high school, college, first jobs, things that haven’t worked out—you can use this framing to consider and plot the future together. By placing yourself in the same physical situation—and imagining hanging with the same person—it’s harder to talk about abstract goals and easier to actually think, “what would I need to be happy three years from now?”
This question was the basis of my friend “The Sketch Guy” Carl Richards’ brilliant article “Your Future Should Be Bigger Than Your Past. Here’s How to Do It.”
