The one thing you need to create
Oh, hi friends!
What are your ideal conditions needed to create?
Clear schedule, plenty of time, perfect cup of coffee, stringent deadlines, respectful collaborators, uninterrupted quiet time, a blooming of ideas?
What if you can’t have them all?
What is *one* condition needed to create?
Just one.
Pick one.
You have it?
Good.
Because usually you can only have one.
People say “if you wait for inspiration, you’ll never create anything.”
But inspiration usually isn’t the problem. It’s all the conditions you tell yourself you need to mold that inspiration into…something.
So find the one condition you truly need. And hit that one, over and over again.
A very Keatsian Christmas tree.
Despite disappointing sales of his first collection, he was intensely ambitious. "I was never afraId of failure," he insisted, "for I would sooner fail than not be among the greatest."
The Romantic poet John Keats lived in this house in Hampstead in London for two years, over 200 years ago. He wrote here, he fell in love with the girl next door here—literally, his “bright star” Fanny Brawne lived on the same floor—and now it’s a quasi-museum and tourist attraction dedicated to showcasing his works. I was drawn to this quote on one of the walls, which really says it all.
Looking to Track Your Habits?
I am intrigued by Habitshare, an app that logs your habits—you can create as many as you want—and also shares them with friends (if you want). Seems like a good mix of accountability and tracking on a device that we’re all probably picking up a 100 times a day. (h/t Christine Hennessey)
