Really sets you off
Oh, hi friends!
The tone is always set at the beginning.
The beginning of the meeting, the email, the day.
If you’re annoyed in the first two minutes of a meeting, it’s probably not going to turn around.
If your first sentence is defensive, that’s how the rest of the message will be received.
And if you start the day saying, “There’s no time! Today is disjointed and scattered and going to be hard!” then it probably will be.
Choose the tone you want to carry you away.
“My career, as much as it’s been really hard work, it’s also been two lucky lightning strikes,” she says of the Facebook missives that got her where she is. For now, though, “my failing upward continues.”
Enjoyed this piece about Annie Julia Wyman, the “Harvard PhD turned screenwriter behind Netflix’s The Chair.” There are lightning strikes and there’s being prepared — she had both! No surprise I loved the show, btw. (h/t Sujay Kumar)
Ahhh, Youth!
Watching the Reading Rainbow opening credits brought me back. And reminded me again how much happier I am when I’m reading an excellent book, a fact that hasn’t changed whether I’m eight years old or 35.
