Streamlining
Oh, hi friends!
I spent a good chunk of Sunday swapping out my winter and summer clothes (a 90-degree day finally made that happen lol) and organizing things around the apartment. Now I don't have to jump to reach a running T-shirt off the top shelf or root around the back of the closet to find sandals. How novel!!
It's the same feeling I got after finally sorting through all my drafts, ideas, and notes in Google Drive and on my desktop. I can honestly say that was the best thing I did all year for my career and creative life. Simply...knowing what I have and where it is.
It seems so tedious, I know. But it’s all in the effort to focus and streamline. One big push, and then smooth sailing for months.
What deserves your focus today?
What can you streamline to help your tomorrow?
“Why not? If Covid didn’t tell you life can be short, then reality will,” said Mr. Thorpe, 46. “It’s more of a motivation, like, ‘Wow, instead of wallowing in this, look at what we went through; it’s time to live more.’”
Love this small business profile of Crème and Cocoa Creamery in Brooklyn. The founders are a married couple with three kids who went through some major health issues this past year (amid the obvious downturn in business) but are still going for it.
In fact, “going for it” seems like the vibe of the summer.
“Sometimes artists put pressure on ourselves to achieve some sort of lofty status, some sort of celebrity...Our purpose as artists is not to lift ourselves. It is to lift the art and thereby lift us all.”
Stephen McKinley Henderson is one incredible actor. His commencement speech about the power of empathy in art and the “great civility to citizens gathering in museums, concert halls, opera houses and theaters,” stirred something up in me. Watch it at UNCSA here.
