Today’s the day
Oh, hi friends!
You tucked away that idea on a shelf a little while ago.
Now, somehow, there are boxes and doo-dads and random junk hiding it from view.
Stuff accumulates.
But even if your view is obscured, you might be able to glimpse a corner.
And, more importantly, you can remember it — your idea.
Maybe today’s the day to dig it back out.
Author Dorothy Parker once said, “Creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye.” The wild mind means you give yourself permission to put a thousand different ideas in your head. You notice a song lyric, a comment from the mailman, a sign at a coffee shop, a question your curious toddler asked, and an article in the New York Times. You collect anything that is remotely interesting to you.
From Austin Kleon. I call this “hunting and gathering” mode, and I very much like the idea of having a wild mind and a disciplined eye. What you find will never go to waste.

We saw In the Heights this weekend and I *loved* it. This is the only summer ‘blockbuster’ I need, highly recommend.
(And Melissa Barrera, the actress who plays Vanessa, happened to be at our random theater on Sunday afternoon on the Upper West Side — the packed audience hooted and clapped for her during the credits, and she said it was the first time she saw herself on the big screen. YES. Give me these good vibes!!)
You can watch the first eight minutes of the movie here.
