Start before you’re ready
Oh, hi friends!
Start before you’re ready.
I was reminded of this phrase yesterday (which shows up somewhere in my journal!), and I was thinking about the many ways we can apply this neat little saying.
It shows up on an hourly basis — when you’re not ready to start working on that project, respond to that tricky email, or make that phone call. You know you probably won’t become more ready, yet you keep waiting.
Or...you can start.
It also shows up with longer-term plans. Maybe you’re not ready to emerge into the world, or book a vacation, or make that big move. But will you ever be ready? What does ready feel like, anyway?
You can start there, too.
The phrase can also apply to bigger conversations, the ones that don't show up on your to-do list. You might not know what to say, or how to say it, but silence will probably never give way to being ready.
Trying, starting. That will move you.
“A good collaboration, let’s put it this way, is one in which you can trust your collaborator to do their job and leave them alone to do their job.”
Absolutely loved this interview with choreographer Twyla Tharp in the New Yorker. She just doesn’t stop. Now I’m going to reread her wonderful book The Creative Habit.
Another Magical Musical
My friends Ron Passaro and Julia Gannon wrote this fantastic song for Raya and the warrior Disney princesses (Elsa! Mulan! Merida! Violet!). It’s an empowering anthem and gave me such a smile this morning.

Thanks, as always, for reading.
