You deserve a break
Oh, hi friends!
I got a little tired.
(Maybe you understand?)
So I took a little break.
(Maybe this appeals?)
It happens. You can get tired. You can (hopefully) take a break.
And then one day, you can return again.
You can skip the reasons why, and let’s not dwell on the merry-go-round of “but all that wasted time.”
That’s behind you now.
Your work and your projects and, especially, your possibilities are waiting.
You can return again.
Maybe even today.
“Rewrites are the essence of life. No matter what you do, it’s hard to get it right the first time.”
I don’t know how I stumbled across this 2003 interview with lyricist Lynn Ahrens, but boy, isn’t it comforting? Thinking of all my projects that could use a little spit polish and rewrite. And how that’s not a problem, rather an essence of life!
So don’t worry about the first time. Try for a second time.
And now I’m sorry to have to share the saddest news. We had to say goodbye to sweet Suzy this weekend. She was Colin’s constant companion over the last 14 years — I swear they could read each other’s minds, which was always amazing to witness. This petite 16-year-old brought us 24/7 joy, especially during this pandemic year as we watched her navigate her assortment of beds, bound up stairs with the energy of a kitten, and make cameos on work Zooms while sitting on our laps all day, every day. Elegant, snuggly, and with a meow like no other, she was a queen. Thank you to all of her fans on Instagram for sharing such sweet notes in the last few days. We miss her so much.
