Imperfect circumstances
Oh, hi friends!
Circumstances are usually less than ideal.
You don’t want to do your work. The world doesn’t want your work. Your work doesn’t want you. There’s laundry to do.
But when we do manage to create our work under less than ideal circumstances, we will always remember our effort. (Even if the effort was tiny.)
We know it wasn’t perfect, but we managed it anyway.
Do something anyway.
“If you don’t think you’ll have a good idea ever again, you’ll hesitate to share what you do have, because you’re worried that it will be stolen and you’ll be left with nothing.
A scarcity mindset simply creates more scarcity, because you’re isolating yourself from the circle of people who can cheer you on and challenge you to produce more. Instead, we can adopt a mindset of abundance. We can choose to realize that creativity is contagious— if you and I are exchanging our best work, our best work gets better. Abundance multiplies. Scarcity subtracts. A vibrant culture creates more than it takes.”
It’s no secret I’m a fan of Seth Godin. His new book The Practice: Shipping Creative Work is changing my life and perspective about the work I’m meant to be doing — and how to do it more often. You might like it, too!
Today’s Recommendation Is This French Nun, Sister André
She recovered from coronavirus earlier this month, and celebrated her birthday on Feb. 11. She turned 117. Sister André survived World War I, World War II, the 1918 Spanish Flu, and then, of course, 2020. For her birthday she planned on having red wine, a Mass in her honor, and her favorite dessert, baked Alaska. Go, Sister André, go! (h/t Colin)
